THE summer season is in full swing now and Bromsgrove teams are playing in both the Hereford and Worcestershire County leagues and the Aegon competition.

They were runners-up in the Spirit of Bromsgrove Awards in the club category last week to add to the Club of the Year accolade from Herefordshire and Worcestershire LTA.

The Ladies' B and D teams both had good wins.

The B team opened their account in Division Two of the County League with a strong 4-2 away at Ledbury A.

Joan McGregor and Linda Wooley won both their rubbers in two sets, dropping only a handful of games.

Katherine Smedley with Ann Banner, playing as first pair, had a win and a loss, as did third pair Hannah Weston with Kelly Kenward.

The Ladies' D team, playing in Division Seven, beat visitors David Lloyd Worcester 6-0.

The score doesn’t reflect how tight the match, was with a number of three-set rubbers.

Sue Forrest and Lesley Hodson had two convincing wins, while Sarah Davies with Catherine Maund at first pair and Jane Corbett with Carol Cornelissen at third pair pulled off great wins to ensure the best possible result for Bromsgrove.

The Men’s A and B teams played in the Aegon competition.

The B team of Ollie Stratford, Steve Jones, David Jameson and Matt Smith kept their unbeaten start going as they trounced Hallow A 6-0.

Ollie Stratford fought back from being a set down against the Hallow number one to earn a great win, while Steve Jones was pushed all the way in the number two spot.

Jameson and Smith won their singles in two sets, while Bromsgrove also produced a convincing win in the doubles.

The A side found it tough as they were edged out by Stratford to draw 3-3.
