BROMSGROVE CC must make sure they are harder to beat in the middle of the season if they are to achieve their dreams of winning promotion from the Birmingham League Division One says skipper Mark Evenson.

The Boars heads into the new season with a renewed determination to earn a place in the Premier Division.

But to do that they will need to master the traditional win/lose/draw format played for 11 games in the middle of the summer.

Bromsgrove are one of the league's best practitioners of the one day international win/lose systerm used in the first five and final six games of the season.

Last year they won nine ODI style games, with just one loss and an abandonment.

But in the traditional format they lost five and drew just three times.

Evenson said: "We had a team meeting last week and came to the decision that we really want to win the league.

"It's always been the elephant in the room and in previous years we've not really taken promotion seriously.

"But we want to really go for it this season and if we're going to do it we'll need to be tougher to beat in the middle part of the season.

"We're a very good ODI side but last year we lost too many games in the old format."

Bromsgrove have seen Tom Underhill join Astwood Bank and James Ganderton unable to play because of work commitments.

But bowler Graeme Whiles has stayed, despite being released by Worcestershire. The Yorkshire seamer has moved in with Boars team-mate Jayden Levitt.

Worcestershire academy youngster Ben Tegg will join as a wicketkeeper/batsman, while stalwart Worcestershire batsman Alexei Kervezee remains at the club.

Evenson added: "We think Alexei will be able to play 14 or 15 games for us this season because most of the Pro 40 games are on a Sunday.

"He's played over a 100 games for us and it is a big part of our team."

Bromsgrove start the season at Old Hill on April 30.
