IAN Long admits that if Alvechurch are to go all the way in the FA Vase they are doing it the hard way after another away draw.

The Lye Meadow outfit have been drawn at Midlands Premier rivals Walsall Wood on Saturday, September 12.

Since defeating Lichfield at home, Alvechurch have been drawn away to Pilkington and Wisbech in subsequent rounds.

Walsall will be a tough game, Church edged out the Black Country side 1-0 at Oak Park in September.

Manager Long said: "If we are going to win the FA Vase we're going to have to do it the hard way!

"This is the third away game in a row and we'd have loved to get someone at home.

"Walsall have some pedigree in this competition, they reached the quarter-finals in the 2012-13 season.

"We won there earlier in the season but it was nip and tuck and Mark Swann has a team that's been together quite a while."

Alvechurch had to come from behind to defeat AFC Bridgnorth 2-1 in the Vase at the weekend as Josh March and Karl Edwards bagged second half goals.

"I am a little concerned about our performances against lower level opponents," admitted Long.

"We don't always show them the respect they deserve and we've got to cut that out.

"Saying that, the pitch was a real leveller, it didn't look like it had been touched since their previous game.

"We scored two good quality goals but got a little lucky as they had an effort right at the end ruled out for offside."

Alvechurch, who were set to play Bilston at home in the JW Hunt Cup on Tuesday night, return to their title chase in the league when they entertain Rocester (3pm ko) before going to Coventry Sphinx in the League Cup on Monday.

Church have also drafted in right-back Mitch Plows. The defender helped Tividale win promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern League Division One South but had a year out because of family commitments.
