SUNDAY saw two Bromsgrove teams complete a hat-trick of opening wins to top their divisions.

Pride of place goes to the ladies' A team, who are clear at the top of Division One after a commanding win against Stourbridge B team.

The two pairs of Imogen Sinclair with Rachel Mach and Sally Franks with Tina Manning only dropped nine games between them in all four contests as they comprehensively outplayed Stourbridge to take maximum points in their 4-0 win.

Captain Franks said: “Playing away in the wet and windy conditions was a challenge but I’m really pleased with the focussed approach of the team to secure the 10 points today and complete three wins out of three in our opening matches.”

In a local derby, the men’s E team travelled down the road to take on David Lloyd Bromsgrove D team.

Again the partnership of Max Feltham with Bruce Turner put in a strong performance as they won both encounters in two sets, only dropping a few games.

The pairing of Chris Hands with Dave Jones had a tougher time, winning their opening contest but losing their second in two close sets.

The 3-1 win means it’s also three wins in a row for them and puts them at the top of Division Nine.

Captain Hands said: “Local derbies are always unpredictable, but Max and Bruce showed they’ve got the skill and temperament to deal with these situations.”

It wasn’t such good news for the newly promoted ladies' G team.

Playing their opening match against Hagley in Division 10, captain Avril Pugh introduced a new player, Claire Hancox, to the team for her first competitive league match.

However, she and partner Claire Andrews went down in both contests. Pugh, playing with Di Horton, had a tight opening tussle losing 9-11 in a the final set tie break and then in straight sets.
