BROMSGROVE Tennis Club’s Ladies teams have made a strong start to the season.

The teams face a challenge as all sides below Division One were promoted last year, while the A team held on to their top flight status.

Playing away, the A team won again, 3-1 against Leominster.

A strong display by Imogen Sinclair and Jilly Whitcomb saw them win both contests, including a nail-biting final set tie-break triumph.

Sally Franks with Rachael Mach secured the other win to give Bromsgrove victory.

Bromsgrove Ladies C Team enjoyed a good win against a strong Stourbridge D Team in Division Four.

The 4-0 success means they start the season with maximum points, as the pairings of Ann Banner with Di Wilson and Linda Wooley with Steph Armstrong showed they are more than capable of holding their own.

The ladies E team also took maximum points.

Ros Cooke and Lesley Hodson won both matches in two sets, while Sue Forrest and Lisa Rushton had a tough opening clash which they won in three sets and then cruised to a straightforward two-set victory in their next tie.

The opening matches for the men’s teams have seen some mixed results, but overall it’s been a promising start.

The Men’s B Team, playing in Division Three made a great start with maximum points in a 4-0 win at Stourbridge.

The two pairings of Phil Boardman with Ash Rutter and Ollie Stratford with Steve Jones both played strongly and were never in any trouble with emphatic wins in all contests.

The D Team took on Woolaston A at home and secured a narrow victory after some tight three-set contests. Mel McGregor with Tim Roland put in a great performance to win both matches. John Casey with Tim Wright lost both their contests in three sets, but with the score at 2-2 the countback on sets and games won gave Bromsgrove victory.

Meanwhile, the Men’s E Team took on a strong Pershore B Team in Division Nine.

Captain Max Feltham teamed up with Bruce Turner and Aaron Oakes played with Matt Arnold.

Each pair had one victory, but Feltham and Turner lost their second encounter in two sets and Oakes and Arnold narrowly lost out in a tie break in the third set of a tight match.

But the extra set won by them gave Bromsgrove victory overall.
