CLIVE Biggs floored the opposition again to win his seventh British Masters Judo title.

The 58-year-old from Catshill, who was named the Bromsgrove Advertiser’s Sports Personality for 2014, was in fine form in Walsall.

Biggs sealed the title after winning all four fights within his 66 kilogram weight category.

Training under the guidance of head performance coach Mark Lammas at Athletic Performance Training, he used a mix of running, swimming and strength training to prepare for this defence of his title with the main goal being to get a full year of training without injury.

The dad of two would have been forgiven for calling time on his competitive career when he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament last year competing at the European Masters Judo Tournament in Paris.

Lammas said: “For the previous year, we had to rehab Clive for most of the time following knee surgery but this time the emphasis was on getting better while staying injury free.

“Obviously in such a combat sport, injury management becomes more prevalent as you get older so using a mix of conditioning activities along with the strength training was key.

“Clive also entered several European competitions as part of his preparations to enable him to fight against different styles of judoka, and he has not been thrown in competition sinc surgery.”

Clive will continue to train and will target more European tournaments in 2016.
