TENNIS: The season at Barnt Green was rounded off in the glorious late summer sunshine with a thoroughly successful doubles finals day.

First on court was the ladies doubles with first-teamers Faye Edwards and Pat Langston taking on Caroline Harris and late replacement Georgina Hurst.

Despite Harris and Hurst putting up a good fight, it was the more experienced pairing of Edwards and Langston who took the match 6-2, 6-2.

Second up was the men’s final which turned out to be the closest match of the event, due to the contrasting style of the two pairings.

James Flynn and Darryn Warner provided the power from one end, while the athleticism of Dave Harris and Martyn Langston were counteracting them at the other.

Big hitting proved to be the dominant factor in the end however as Flynn and Warner prevailed 6-4, 7-5.

The third and final match of the day was the mixed doubles final, with Edwards and Flynn returning to the court but on opposing sides of the net.

Edwards was reunited with her former partner Andrew Yair and James with new member Sarah Stephens.

It was the more experienced pairing of Edward and Yair who proved that the old magic was very much intact with a comprehensive 6-0, 6-1 victory to complete a great day in the sunshine for everyone involved.
