BROMSGROVE captain Mark Evenson admits his side need to regain their lost momentum after a seven-wicket defeat toWellington in Shropshire.

The Boars have not picked up a positive result in Birmingham League Division One after two abandoned games in a row followed by two outright defeats.

Before that, they had been riding high in the division and the captain accepts there needs to be an improvement.

He said: “I think having two games in a row called off didn't help us.

"Momentum is all-important and having a fortnight where we didn’t have anything to do knocked us out of our rhythm.

“We’ve got to get back to the level we were playing at before and give ourselves a chance in the final six games.”

Bromsgrove were without one of their key batsmen Ashley Newfield, which saw Alexei Kervezee moved to opening the innings.

However, he failed to trouble the scorers when Charlie Mackelworth caught him off the bowling of Trevor Garwe (2-41) for a duck, while Jayden Levitt was also dismissed as they slipped to 20-2.

Ryan Pedley (28) and Tom Green (56) gave Bromsgrove a lift but they were dismissed for 175 in 55 overs.

Nick Husbands dismissed Steve Lamb and William Tuffin had Neil Edwards caught by Tom Underhill as Wellington were reduced to 55-2 but Jamie Miller’s 100 guided the hosts towards victory.

Miller was dropped early on and the hosts made 176-3 in reply.

Bromsgrove go to Smethwick in the league on Saturday (noon start).

Evenson said: “We had a bad start with the bat but I felt we recovered well.

“Unfortunately we dropped the guy who went onto score a century.”
