ALL-round performances from brothers in arms Jake and Max Young guided Droitwich Spa to the top of the Worcestershire Premier League with a tense two-wicket victory at Redditch.

Chasing a modest score of 155, they provided the mainstay of the Spa innings with scores of 52 and 38 respectively as the visitors threatened to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by losing seven wickets for just 60 after cantering to 90-1.

Earlier the latter snared 5-51 from 17 overs of medium pace swing and seam and was well-supported by his younger sibling’s excellent spell of leg-spin.

Spa go to Oldswinford on Saturday (1pm start).

There was a nail-biting conclusion to Droitwich seconds clash against Harborne at St Peter’s Fields although it was the away side that held its nerve to pinch a six-wicket win with just four balls to spare.

Martin Keen top-scored with 55 in the Spa total of 208-7.

Meanwhile, history was made when Jacey Foster, 14, became the first female player to represent one of the men’s senior sides in league competition.

The Droitwich High School pupil celebrated the landmark with a wicket as she removed Cookley captain Phil Dixon in Droitwich thirds’ eight-wicket victory.

Jacey, who already represents Worcestershire Ladies at under-15s and whose brothers Olly and Bop also play for Spa’s junior sides, claimed 1-25 in a tidy seven-over spell.

Her father, Paul, also picked up three wickets in the Droitwich win.
