BROMSGROVE Swimming Club made a strong start to Nuneaton and District League with a second place finish in round one.

After a steady start, BSC’s members started to find their form, with Luke Culwick winning the nine year old breaststroke.

The under-11s freestyle team of Seb Perry, Ed Maycock, Luke Jones and Michael Bray also tasted victory.

By race 15, Bromsgrove BSC were in third place in the overall points and this then spurred the whole team on with another eight first places.

James Maycock and Jacob Elliott raced to success in the 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke respectively, while in the relays, the under-10s girls quartet of Jasmine Kilmartin, Ryley Malone-Priest, Bromley Arnold and Lucy Charles were winners.

Connor Bray, Luke Jones, Ed Maycock and Thomas Powell won their relay, while 9yr 4x1 freestyle relay Conor Bray, Joe Troth, Gabriel Perry and Culwick took first place.

There were also runners-up spots for Michael Bray (under-11s backstroke and breaststroke), Joe Troth (9yo butterfly) and the 4x1 under-10s relay foursome of Jasmine Kilmartin, Millie Ryall, Bromley Arnold and Ryley Malone-Priest, which had lifted Bromsgrove by race 30 into second spot.

The atmosphere poolside and in the spectators area was intense, with 1st place in sight.

Swimmers battled their way through the last 21 races to the end of the gala gaining another four successes.

Connor Bray and Jasmine Kilmartin won their 50m backstroke races, while Bromley Arnold took the 10yo butterfly.

There were also second place finishes for gala debutant Ellie Mansell in the freestyle, Ed Maycock in the backstroke, Emily Bower in the backstroke and in the 8x1 freestyle relay for Troth, Culwick, Thomas Powell, Luke Jones, Ed Maycock, Michael Bray, Seb Perry and James Hall.

Bromsgrove finished runners-up behind Droitwich Dolphins with a host of personal best times.
