CAPTAIN Mark Evenson says there is no pressure on Bromsgrove this season.

The Boars commence the Birmingham League Division One at home to Smethwick on Saturday (noon start).

They welcome back bowler Mike Wyers, who spent a year at Dorridge, but Joe Dodd has gone the other way.

It means Tom Hill is set to step up from the seconds to be Bromsgrove wicketkeeper.

Worcestershire batsman Alexei Kervezee is also set to play again for the St Godwalds-based outfit this season.

Otherwise, they have retained the likes of big-hitting batsmen Ashley Newdick and Jayden Levitt.

“If you look at our team, we’re one of the best four in the division, but there’s no pressure on where we finish,” said Evenson.

“We’ve welcomed back Mike Wyers, but lost Joe Dodd, but Tom Hill deserves his chance to step up as first-team wicketkeeper.”

Bromsgrove completed their pre-season programme with a win over Old Elizabethans.

Levitt filled his boots with 78 runs and Adam Jones (43) got among the runs as the Boars totalled 247-8 in 45 overs.

Bromsgrove’s bowling attack then took a wicket each as Elizabethans were kept to 189-6.
