Peterborough Lions 28, Bromsgrove 10

BROMSGROVE were unable to reproduce their patented stirring comebacks as they were blown away by promotion-chasing Peterborough.

The Boars, who had developed a knack of roaring back into games with second half surges, could not claw back a 21 point deficit.

For the first 30 minutes, Bromsgrove hardly ventured out of their half even though they tried manfully to run out of defence.

They were guilty of giving up possession in crucial attacks and from one such event Peterborough stripped the ball and worked the ball along their back line to their speedy winger Vernon Horne, who ran in his first try and Will Carrington converted.

Ed Spalding tried his best to put Bromsgrove on the front foot, but his feet gave up on him and he was replaced by James Upton.

Try as they might Bromsgrove couldn’t breach the Peterborough defence, and the home side scored another try finished off by Horne, but constructed from deep in their own half after the away side managed to get some decent field position.

Carrington added the extras to hand Lions a 14-0 lead, which was stretched to 21-0 before the break when, the Lions' kicker scrambled over the line and then added the two points.

Bromsgrove didn’t panic and after a good run by Oli Bache allowed John Critchlow to put a penalty away.

Despite some handling errors, Tom Millen crossed the line, and Critchlow converting for a 21-10 scoreline.

But hopes of a comeback were stalled as Bromsgrove struggled to find their passing game.

Horne killed off a Boars revival when he broke away to complete his hat-trick, as Carrington added the conversion.

Bromsgrove must regroup, rediscover the form that brought them victory over Old Halesonians and find a way to win their next match.
