DROITWICH Spa Ladies enjoyed a much-needed 3-0 victory over derby rivals Bromsgrove.

After a goalless opening 30 minutes, Spa finally made the breakthrough when Lucy Hine punished a mix-up at the back.

They doubled their lead within 10 minutes through a direct strike by Susan Williams from a penalty corner.

The visitors enjoyed much of the possession throughout the second half and this long period of good play was rewarded with Droitwich’s third goal, which came from Katie Brooker.

A first win in six meant that they regained third place in Worcestershire League Division Two.

The Ladies take on mid-table Bournville seconds at home on Saturday (10.30am start).

The seconds got the better of Worcester fifths, with Abbie Latham and Rachel Cooper on target.

They moved the side up to fifth place in Worcestershire Division Three.

Droitwich travel to Stourport sixths looking to further cement their league position on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Droitwich men’s first went down 4-1 at home to Old Wulfrunians, which leaves them second from bottom in West Midlands Division One.

The seconds were edged out 2-0 by Evesham as for only the second time this season, Spa failed to score.

During the first half, Spa dominated proceedings with Dave Purchase being put through on several occasions but was denied by the keeper.

Lee Wakelan also screwed a good chance wide.

Evesham continued to struggle with the Spa pace and movement, with the only threat they offered was the aerial ball, which was well-marshalled by Robin Lee.

Cameron Grant hit the woodwork but Evesham’s rolling substitutions started to hand them the advantage.

The Robins scored their first from a swift counter attack and doubled their lead soon after.

Spa created chances late in the game as they pushed defenders further forward, which created more chances that could not be converted by captain Nick Bates and Mathew Mason They have a home game against Old Wulfrunians at home with a 3pm start on Saturday.

Droitwich Under-13s had a mixed bag of results in the latest Worcestershire result.

In their first game, they fell behind early on against Bromsgrove and then could not take their chances despite having much of the play.

Against Kings Heath, they were beaten 5-0.

Spa can look forward to the final tournament of the season in April 19, when the medals will be handed out. On Sunday, the Under-11s lost to Bromsgrove, Kings Heath and Knowle.
