BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith was glad to see his side fire on all cylinders ahead of another vital week for their title hopes.

The Rouslers handed out a 7-0 hammering to bottom side Pelsall Villa in the Midlands Football League Division One.

But Smith was pleased that Chris Conway marked his return from a work-enforced spell on the sidelines with a brace to make it 15 goals for the season, while new addition Matthew Gardiner also scored for the second consecutive game to make it 19.

Jozsef Jakab was also at the double, while Reece Hewitt and Will Tibbetts hit the back of the net.

Sporting’s reforged goal-den form comes at the right time as they tackle two top six sides over the next seven days.

They entertain sixth-placed Cadbury Athletic on Saturday (3pm ko) and next Tuesday, go to fourth-placed Bolehall Swifts (7.45pm ko).

Bromsgrove are the division’s highest scorers with 75 goals but are currently third in the table.

They are set to face Highgate United in what could be a pivotal title clash on Saturday, March 7. They also entertain Hinckley on March 21.

Smith said: “Saturday’s game was the first time for a while that we had everybody available.

“We’ve got a very important six weeks coming, so it’s great to have everyone fit and chomping at the bit.”

Sporting though are still chasing leaders Highgate, who maintained their seven-point lead over Sporting with a 2-1 win over Racing Club Warwick.

Last Tuesday, Bromsgrove were held to a 1-1 draw by Coventry Copsewood, with Gardner bagging a leveller.

But they bounced back at struggling Pelsall for their biggest win of the season.

Smith added: “I was very surprised that the Pelsall game went ahead because the pitch was not in a good state.

“We had to modify our game and but we played a little more direct and it worked well.”

Sporting were also set to play Littleton last night in the Smedley Crooke Charity Cup.
