FAIRFIELD Villa and Droitwich Spa are set to try again this Saturday when they clash in the semi-finals of the Worcester Junior Cup.

Last weekend’s highly anticipated semi-final clash was postponed after a waterlogged pitch.

But hopes are high that the clash at Villa’s Recreation Ground, which kicks-off at 1.45pm, will go ahead.

It will be the third time since Christmas that the local rivals would have played, with Spa winning both Midlands Division Two games 2-1.

Fairfield Villa joint manager Paul Oakes said: “We had worked really hard all week on the pitch and it was looking very good but unfortunately, two lots of snow has forced the game off.

“But we’re hopeful that the game goes ahead this weekend. Because it’s a Worcestershire FA game it takes precedent over everything else.

“Droitwich have done very well and they’ve become a bit of a bogey side for us, so we’re looking forward to the game.”

Villa are expected to nearly be at full strength, with Matt Collins missing because of work commitments.

Meanwhile, Droitwich are missing two or three players who are away, while striker James Lemon is cup-tied, although Macauley Finch is available.

“We’re missing a few for this weekend, so we’re hoping for rain,” joked Spa joint manager Wayne Oakes.

“Obviously being without a few lads just breaks up the team’s continuity but we’ll see what happens.”
