Bromsgrove 13, Hinckley 22

BROMSGROVE saw their seven game winning run in the National Three Midlands come to an end at the hands of Hinckley.

The reliable boot of Jon Critchlow kicked two penalties to hand the home side a 6-0 lead.

The away side suffered a setback when they had a player sin binned but their big forward line imposed themselves on the Boars.

Bromsgrove then had Kevin Salisbury dismissed and Hinckley were awarded a penalty try to edge ahead.

Critchlow showed great skill just before half-time to create a scoring opportunity for his side by pulling off two dummies before the move broke down.

Hinckley started the second half the stronger side and increased their lead when Tom Morris punished a host of knock ons when he crashed over and Mark Lord added the extras.

Bromsgrove tried to hit back but found a well-drilled Hinckley defence too strong to break down.

But after the away side had a player sin-binned, Dave Lewis got the Boars back into the game when he touched down and Critchlow added the extra points.

However, Hinckley's pack continued to dominate the game and stretched their lead when Morris added a second try and Lord converted.

Lord put away a penalty as Bromsgrove found themselves trailing 22-13.

There was much to be learned from the match and the young Bromsgrove team will have to do things differently when meeting sides with the power in the forwards that Hinckley have.

A different challenge awaits them next week at Lichfield, who returned to winning ways by beating Bournville.

Defeat saw the Boars slip from second in the table to fourth-place.
