SAMURAI’S junior stars collected 26 medals at the club’s open Minimon Championships, which was attended by 40 clubs.

There was success for in-form pair James Hemer and Jake Ashen, who clocked up six wins between them, all by maximum points.

Newcomer Adam Swalwell added a third gold, defeating Callum Fletcher in the final, who therefore finished with silver.

There was another silver for another newcomer, William Ford.

The boys also gathered a whole load of bronzes through Sam Norton-Brunet, Ben Hewitt, Dillon Walker, Daniel Hickinbottom, Evan Turner, Alfie Lye, Sam Hewitt, Luke Talbot and Jake McAteer (both two).

Adam Swalwell and Callum Fletcher both entered a second category and both finished with bronzes in that group, in addition to their earlier gold and silver.

The girls also took three gold medals on their day.

Ellie McAteer, Sophie Deeming-Lane and Sian Bobrowska all bagged gold medals.

Lily Deeming-Lane finished in second place to Ellie McAteer and so took silver, as did her younger sister Bonnie, the third of the Deeming-Lane girls.

McAteer was allowed into a second category, and reached the final before losing to a very good girl from Northumberland, and so collected a silver medal, with Lily Deeming-Lane taking bronze, which was her second medal of the day.

Finally, Hetty Tinsdale won four matches on her way to a silver medal.
