FAIRFIELD Villa produced a stirring fight back to earn a battling 3-3 draw against Leicester Road in the Midlands Division Two last Saturday.

Villa were playing at DeMontford Park, the ground of the now defunct Hinckley United, against the now disbanded club’s former Under-21 side and played their part in a thrilling encounter.

Connor Collins had scored but the Bromsgrove side were trailing 3-1 before substitute Thomas Cunningham-Smith bagged a memorable last-ditch double.

He made it 3-2 in the 90th minute when he headed home a cross from brother Ben.

Villa drew level in the 93rd when Cunningham-Smith raced onto Joe Mogg’s pass and finished neatly.

John Pykett nearly sealed all three points but his effort hit the woodwork.

Fairfield have been involved in a host of goal-laden matches in recent weeks.

They have scored 23 goals in eight league games and have scored 18 in their last four matches.

Joint manager Paul Oakes said: “It was a great game to watch. The stadium was a wonderful setting for a game of football and Leicester Road are a talented young side.

“We felt their second goal should not have stood and it was even worse when we let in a third.

“But we showed great determination and Thomas came on to score two good goals.”

Villa now entertain Earlswood Town in the league on Saturday (3pm ko), who are managed by former Bromsgrove Sporting boss Keith Draper.

But Oakes admits he only has 13 fit players ahead of the clash, with the likes of Andy Cook, Adam Dyer, Chris Pratt, Ellis Blakemore and Shane Calder all set to be absent.

“Keith and I know each other well so we’re looking forward to it,” added Oakes. “But we are missing a few players.”
