HEAD coach Dan Protherough refused to get carried away as Bromsgrove put struggling neighbours Dudley Kingswinford to the sword.

The Boars made it back-to-back league wins for the first time since April 2013 with a comprehensive 50-15 victory at Finstall Park in the National Division Three Midlands.

It means Bromsgrove have made a solid start since relegation last season, winning three of their first five matches.

It's a run which leaves them handily placed in sixth.

But Protherough was keeping his feet on the ground after watching his side record their biggest win.

“I thought we played reasonably well but there are still areas that need to be improved.

“I thought our finishing was a lot better and the team is showing signs that we are starting to gel.

“But Dudley’s defence was not as bad as it looks, they defended better than some teams we have played.”

Bromsgrove were in control from the start and powered into a 26-3 lead thanks to tries by James Lloyd-Jones, Keiran Walton, Phil Horton and Jamie Tsang.

Walton went onto completed a hat-trick by adding two more after the break, while Tom Hunt and Ieuan Mustoe added more touch downs to compound Dudley’s misery and Bromsgrove's superiority.

Protherough, who replaced Ross Baxter in the summer, said: “It has been a good start but I felt we could have actually won four games after our narrow loss to Sutton Coldfield.

“It’s hard to judge where we are because the only top side we have played are South Leicester.

“It’s a funny league really, it’s still very close and there’s not a lot between the sides.”

Bromsgrove’s head coach has no major injury concerns, with Brad Cook the only doubt after picking up a knock on Saturday.

The Boars face Hinckley away next on Saturday, a side who have won two of their first four matches, in the league on Saturday (3pm ko).
