Droitwich 17,

Banbury 22

DROITWICH suffered their first defeat of the season in the Midlands Division Two West (South) against a solid Banbury outfit.

Spa streaked into a 10-0 thanks to a try which was converted by Ian Conda and a Bobby Scott-Walker penalty.

The hosts should of added more points to the scoreboard but poor handling and decision making cost them as Banbury took advantage of a poor pass and hit back with their first converted try of the game.

A penalty ensured it was honours even at half-time.

Banbury continued the second-half the way they finished the first after a mix-up by Droitwich gave an easy chance for a touch down.

Spa dug in, but another error allowed the visitors to score in the corner and Droitwich found themselves trailing by 12 points.

Good running by Will Bailon gave Spa good field position and mounted pressure on the Banbury defence.

Spa’s hosts had a player sin-binned after numerous penalties and the home side were eventually rewarded with a penalty try after enormous pressure by the forwards.

But it all came too late with the referee blowing the final whistle.

Droitwich go to Spartans on Saturday, who are still waiting for their first win of the season.
