BROMSGROVE kept their faint hopes of promotion in the Birmingham and District League Division One alive with an eight-wicket win over Oswestry.

Victory leaves the Boars in fourth place, 18 points off second with three matches of the season left.

Oswestry won the toss and elected to bat first but only made 172-9 in their 50 overs, despite half centuries for Joe Carrasco and Robbie Clarke.

William Tuffin (4-33) and captain Mark Evenson (3-20) were in good form with the ball.

After several breaks for rain, Jayden Levitt (66 no) and Alexei Kervezee (59) steered Bromsgrove to a revised 141-2 in 18 overs.

The Boars now face bottom of the table Wombourne away in the league on Saturday, with a noon start.

Kervezee is set to be in action for Worcestershire.

Evenson said: “We’re not out of the promotion race yet but we will have to win our final three games and hope other results go our way.

“All we can do is hang in there and keep getting results.

“It was a shame our game on Bank Holiday Monday against Ombersley was rained off as that could have helped.”

Meanwhile, Bromsgrove were edged out by Ombersley in the final of the T20 County Cup final on Sunday.

They had defeated Stourbridge in the semi-final earlier in the day.
