THE season’s unbeaten run for Bromsgrove Ladies A team came to a halt when they took on Droitwich A team and came away with a 4-2 defeat.

The critical contest between Bromsgrove first pair of Rachael Mack and Sophie Oliver and Droitwich first pair of Sallows and Whiteman just went the wrong way for Bromsgrove as they were shaded out 5-7, 6-7 in a keenly fought encounter.

Sally Franks with Tina Manning and Kelly Kenward with Hannah Weston both had well earned victories against York and Maidment from Droitwich, but the combinations of Sallows with Whiteman and Hughes with Pettifer-Jones were unbeaten for Droitwich.

Ladies Captain Sally Franks said “It was a closely fought match with both sides putting a lot of effort in.

“It’s always disappointing when an unbeaten run comes to an end, but Droitwich deserved the victory and played very well. It looks like we’ve handed the title to Stourbridge unless there are some unexpected results.”

It was better news for the men’s D team, who extended their unbeaten start to the season to five matches as they completed a maximum point 6-0 win over Fladbury in Division Eight of the Summer League.

Ollie Stratford with Trevor Errington and Chris Hands with Pete Morris had straightforward two set wins in both contests.

Andy Hewston with Tim Roland had a tougher time, coming through in three sets against the Fladbury second pair, before finishing with a two-set win.

The team are closing in on Worcester University who have completed all their matches and top the table.

Finally, the Mixed D team had a tight victory over Moreton in the Marsh. With rubbers and sets tied at 2-2 Bromsgrove just took the victory 49 games to 47. Captain Dave Jones said: “Moreton are always a strong team so it’s great to get the win.”
