MATT CLINTON was in record-breaking form while tackling Bromsgrove Olympique's club's open ten mile trial.

The Mike Vaughan Cycles rider won the event in a time of 19 minutes and 27 seconds, the speediest ever set at an Olympique event.

There was a bumper crop taking part in the course in Rubery, with 109 entrants, a 40 per cent increase on the previous year.

Clinton finished one 90 seconds ahead of Mark Corbett, while Tim Wood, who represented Team Echelon-Rotor, crossed the line in 21-09.

The fastest woman was Hayley Simmonds (Velosport-Past Monregrappa) in 22-05.

Worcester St John's CC were the top team as Corbett, Martin Lines and Simon Wix set a collective time of 1-5.19, with the Wyre Forest trio of Justin Walters, Jon Howard and Andy Convery second and Walsall Roads CC third.

Team Swift's Tony Ball was the first over-40s competitor to finish to win his age category.

There were age success for Joe Costello (over-50), William Harper (over-60) and Vincent Jenkins (over-70s).
