CAPTAIN Andy Sutton hailed the impressive all round performance after Barnt Green stunned Shrewsbury with a three-wicket victory.

The reigning championships have endured a torrid time in the Birmingham and District League Premier but remain a team packed with plenty of talent.

But Green produced a comprehensive display to earn all 24 points.

Despite having four of their eight matches abandoned because of rain, the Cherry Hill Road side have won three of their playable games.

Sutton said: "Going to Shrewsbury is never easy, it's one of our longest trips and they have a very good side.

"While they are not having the best of seasons, this is a huge result for the team.

"To earn 24 points as well also says what a good display."

Green made a poor start when they lost the toss and made to bowl first their bowlers set the tone early on.

Sutton, who went onto take three wickets for 44 runs in 12 overs, made the early break through when he bowled key batsman Ed Foster for just nine runs.

Tom Burton then had Steve Leach caught by Sutton for 26 runs as the home side made 59-2.

But with Burton, who took 4-29, in good form and Luke Radford (0-16) bowling with pace and control, Shrewsbury stumbled to 188-9 in 55 overs.

After the early setback of losing William Baker (11), Nathan Newport (51) stiffened the order before being caught by Anthony Parker off Elliott Green's bowling.

Edward Pollock (25), Radford (30) and Sutton (19) all added runs as Green made 191-7 in 48 overs.

Sutton said: "Tom Burton played very well and I was lucky to take some wickets as well.

"There is also a special mention for Luke Radford.

"It was his first game back after his three-match ban and he bowled with real pace and menace and also contributed with the runs."

Green now entertain current leaders West Bromwich Dartmouth in the league on Saturday in a battle of the in-form teams (noon start).

Wicket keeper Sam Cheshire returns from his five-match ban for the clash.
