LOCAL rivalry was resumed when Bromsgrove Men’s A Team took on Bromsgrove David Lloyd in a national league match.

Things started badly for Bromsgrove as a late withdrawal left them a player short. Fortunately John Casey, a C team player, stepped into the breach and did himself and the club proud.

Despite losing his singles he teamed up with Steve Halfpenny to win a crucial doubles battle to give Bromsgrove a great victory.

The Ladies A Team continued their good start in Division One, with a narrow win away against Leominster A who won the Winter League.

The stars were the young duo of Imogen Sinclair and Hannah Weston who won both their matches after tough struggles.

With Sally Franks and Tina Manning securing a good win against their opposite pair, Bromsgrove took it 8-7 on sets with rubbers level at 3-3.

Meanwhile, the C team travelled to Division Six leaders Dudley David Lloyd.

Both Lisa Rushton with Sue Forrest and Sheila Richardson with Sue Murray defeated a weak third pair from the hosts but overall went down 4-2.

In Division Seven, the D team were edged out 4-2 by Droitwich.

The Mixed teams are enjoying a successful start to the season.

In Division Three, the C side had a good 3-1 win against Droitwich B, with Joan McGegor and Phil Boardman securing both their contests comfortably.

The D Team repeated the score against Bewdley D in a Division Six encounter.

Finally in Division Eight the Men’s E team went down 4-2 to Worcester University.

Bromsgrove also held a hugely successful open day as part of the LTA’s Great British Tennis campaign.
