DROITWICH Spa Ladies continued their excellent Summer League campaign as they recorded a fifth straight win after edging out Stourport Blue 2-1.

Despite being forced to field a changed team, with several players out of position, goals for Rachel Cooper and Mollie Cresswell sealed victory.

Spa started slowly as the new look side adjusted to their new positions.

Cooper opened her Summer League account with an excellent finish after some good stick skills in the D as Stourport defence backed off.

They showed their determination and work ethic to keep their Worcestershire rivals out for the remainder of the half as they played the ball around.

Droitwich were a little lacklustre at the beginning of the second half as Stourport equalised from a short corner.

From there on, Droitwich found their mettle and began to dominant their younger opponents, and scored the decisive goal .

This time Cooper turned provider with a cross from the right as Cresswell popped up in the circle with a rare strike.

Droitwich then weathered a Stourport onslaught as the half wore on, with Spa keeper Lucy Hine making some key saves.

Captain Sophie Blackmore hailed the team after a strong display.

She said: “This result is testament to the squad of women I have to choose from, as I know they will go and give me their all.

“We were without top scorer Hannah Robson and first choice keeper Kaylie Thomas but still got our fifth win from five games.

“Despite injuries during the game we were able to adapt our formation and you could see the confidence and quality in our approach play which has improved with our five wins this summer.”

Droitwich face a stiff test of their excellent start to the season when they take on local rivals Redditch.

After Redditch, they tackle Bromsgrove B, Malvern College and Stourport White during the rest of June.

The team have been in sparkling form, having defeated Bromsgrove, Bromsgrove School, Worcester, Stourport and Pershore.

They have also scored 25 goals in a prolific start to the campaign, conceding just seven.

l Ladies wanting to return or play the sport for the first time can do so with Droitwich Spa’s Summer Back to Hockey campaign, which has been extended to June 23.
