SAM Cater signed off in style with three victories while competing for Bromsgrove and Redditch AC in the first round of the Midland Senior Track and Field League at Nunnery Wood.

The powerhouse is set to miss the rest of the season after under going an operation on his foot but he made his mark in the throwing events.

He fought through the pain barrier to win the men's javelin and shot putt as well as the B discus.

The team finished third in a strong start to the season.

Jo Frost won the women's long jump, despite only having a few weeks of preparations, while the club also won the men's 4x400m relay.

Richard O'Connor saw off Cater to take first place in the hammer B.

There were also wins for Simon Lanckham in the two kilometre steeplechase B, Simeon Clarence 400m B and Dave Mould in the 400m A.

There were also a number of impressive personal best for BRAC members.

Sam Moran set new a standard when he leapt 5.57 metres in the long jump and equalled his best, 11.43m, in the triple jump.

In the 5,000m, Joe Smith set a time of 16 minutes and 16 seconds to come runner-up.

Mark Appleton was second in the 2km steeplechase in a personal best of 6-42.

In the discus, Richard O'Connor threw 32.74m to take second, Ashleigh Beaven completed the 200m B in 28.1s, while Heather Knight set 4.3m in the long jump.

There were also debuts for Ashley Ross (5,000m), Alison Pick-up (400m) and Heather Knight (long and high jumps).

The next meeting is on Saturday, June 7 at Telford.
