A CAPTAIN’S innings by Max Young provided Droitwich’s first century of the season and guided Spa to an unlikely five-run victory over Barnt Green in the Worcestershire Sunday League.

Young’s ton was the mainstay in Spa’s total of 208 in the 40-over clash at St Peter’s Fields, but at one stage it looked to have been in vain as the visitors cruised to a commanding 150-1.

Droitwich rallied, though, thanks to a three-wicket spell from left-arm spinner Jack Eaton to pull off an impressive win.

Elsewhere, the inclement weather proved to be the victor for most of the weekend.

On Saturday, Droitwich travelled to Belbroughton where the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled after a fruitless wait for the players.

They take on Bromyard at home on Saturday.

Spa’s first-ever fourth-team fixture was also washed out, as was the Worcestershire Sunday League second-team fixture at Barnt Green.

In Worcestershire County League Division Six, Cutnall Green lost to Canon Frome by seven wickets.

They were bowled out for 104, with Frome making 107-3 in reply.
