JOCKEY Jane Williams enhanced her claim to the area’s leading lady rider title with two victories in Sunday’s Wheatland Point-to-Point in Chaddesley Corbett.

The Bridgnorth-based racer won the AGA sponsored Ladies Open on Cottage Oak, securing a thrilling victory with a bold surge in the 13th furlong, and easily clinched first place in the Members on What a Bluff.

Gloucestershire-based Mark Wall has been the leading rider in the area for the past four seasons and it was clear to see why after his performances on Maybe Plenty in the Restricted and Perfectly Willing in the Conditions.

Wall’s horsemanship and patience finally persuaded the mare to jump off with the rest of the field and in the race she was a willing participant throughout.

After disputing the lead for the first circuit, Maybe Plenty began to stretch her rivals down the back straight and turned for home with a clear advantage. The favourite Cold Knight looked dangerous in the home straight and was still in second place when pulled up approaching the second from home.

The mare’s effort looked as though they would be in vain as Half a Litre began to eat into her advantage over the final two fences and it required all of Wall’s experience to nurse Maybe Plenty home by half a length.

Wall also adopted similar tactics on Perfectly Willing in the Conditions Race sending his mount to the front from the start to win by two lengths.

They saw off the challenge of Overafrica to cross the line first with a two-length gap over their closest rivals.

Wall has been playing catch up all season as Hindlip’s Tom Weston has headed the table, but he has managed to reduce the gap and has now taken a narrow lead with just two meetings remaining.

David Mansell and Findlays Find returned to the scene of their greatest triumph in last month’s Lady Dudley Cup and followed up by taking the Men’s Open in a similar impressive fashion.

The concluding Maiden went to the Worcester qualified gelding Ohowya who had shown good form when runner up at Woodford recently.
