BROMSGROVE School has been named one of the best independent sporting educational establishments in the country.

School Sport Magazine has ranked them fourth out of a list of more than 1,000 after a host of successes in 2013.

Among their achievements last year was becoming national netball champions and reaching the final stages of national athletics, cricket and rugby competitions.

Phil Tusler, publishing editor of School Sport Magazine, said: “This has been a remarkable year for competitive sport in schools and Bromsgrove School deserve their achievement.

“The list unashamedly reflects and celebrates competitive achievement in a range of sports throughout 2013 and honours those schools that take competition especially seriously.”

The rankings are based on 20 different sports and more than 120 different national competitions.

The school saw its pupils reach the semi-finals of the Daily Mail under-15s rugby tournament, in athletics get to the intermediate boys final, while the boys under-16s hockey team made the finals of the indoor nationals.

Paul Mullan, Head of Extra-Curricular at Bromsgrove School commented, “We do not just concentrate on one sport – at Bromsgrove the emphasis is on all sports and encouraging participation.”
