BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Adie Mander believes his side can build on the strong foundations laid down in the 2014-15 campaign.

The Rouslers secured second place in the Midland Combination Premier on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Blackwood.

That was their 12th win in the last 15 league games, which ensured they built on last season’s sixth-place finish.

He said: “We moved to second in December and never really looked back.

“Many of our rivals had games in hand and we could have finished seventh but fair play to the lads they have done very well.

“It’s worth remembering that when I joined we had no players and it took a while to get the squad together.

“But I am very happy with the players we’ve got and if we had them from the start of the season we would have pushed Brocton a lot closer for the title.

“We’ve laid the foundations for next season. A club of this size always has high expectations and we’ve raised the bar again.”

Mander is also confident he will keep the squad which has done so well in the last few months.

Sporting were named team of the month for January, February and March because of their excellent run.

Striker Mark Bellingham’s goal scoring efforts have been key to Sporting’s success.

The veteran hitman has scored 43 goals in 33 appearances to become the division’s top gun.

Mander added: “I have spoken to the players and I would be surprised if we lost many players.

“I’ve got a few irons in the fire and there are about half a dozen players I want to bring in.

“Obviously, Mark Bellingham has done absolutely brilliantly to score so many goals. He’s said he wants to play for us next season.”

Sporting have a free weekend but they resume the league at Bolehall Swifts on Saturday, May 3 (3pm ko).

They will then continue their quest for a first ever silverware on May 7 when they take on Pilkington XXX in Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup semi-finals.

“It would be nice to end the season with a cup because the club is still waiting,” said Mander.
