BROMSGROVE remain on course for promotion on two fronts.

The men’s team returned to the top of the West Midlands Division One after defeating Tamworth 6-2 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the second-placed ladies kept the pressure on leaders Harborne with a 7-1 thrashing of Tenbury in Worcestershire Division One on Saturday.

Bromsgrove School pupils Luisa Hann and Freddie Robbins became the first students to play for the team as part of the partnership between the two organisations.

The duo made an immediate impact as they set up captain Naomi Cartwright for the opening goal.

Heather Nunnerley added a second, while full-back Justine Postones tucked the ball home for her first goal for two seasons.

The Robbins, Hann and Cartwright combination yielded a fourth goal, which was swiftly followed up by a fifth as Nunnerley’s pass was swept in by Kate Jones.

The sixth duly arrived after a passing move featuring Maz Cooksey and Hann was smartly converted by Cartwright to complete her hat-trick.

Robbins then smashed home a good cross from Harriet Finney.

Bromsgrove take on Badsey away on Saturday.

Elsewhere, the thirds defeated Kings Heath seconds 5-1, with Vicky Longmore (3) Sal White (2) scoring, while the seconds slipped to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Barford.

Not to be outdone, the men’s first team returned to the top of the division and cruised into the last eight of the National Cup.

Tom Jennings opened the scoring against Tamworth in the league, but it was three second-half goals in six minutes which confirmed their dominance.

Andy Langlands scored twice from penalty corners and Bevan Edwards continued his return to fitness with a fine strike.

Tamworth scored on the break before Langlands completed his hat -trick.

Despite a second Tamworth goal, Bromsgrove completed the rout with an effort from Jake Bubbles.

On Sunday, Bromsgrove came from behind to defeat Mansfield 6-1 and book a home clash against Keswick.

Anton Sieg cancelled out a Mansfield opener before Veit Wasserfuhr set him up minutes later to put Bromsgrove in to the lead.

Before half-time, they added a third after a Jake Bubbles’ shot was deflected in by captain Laurence Shah.

Tom Green bagged another and a brace from Wasserfuhr sealed victory.
