Mander calls for winning mentality

BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Adie Mander has demanded a winning attitude to secure the club’s first ever silverware.

The Rouslers tackle Alvis Sporting in Coventry in the Midland Combination Challenge Cup fourth round (3pm kick-off).

Since the club’s birth four years ago they have had some near misses in knockout competitions but Mancer is determined to deliver a cup.

He said: “I want a winning mentality down at Sporting.

“I want us to be winning league games, friendlies and cup matches.

“I am desperate to win a competition for Sporting and I don’t see a reason why we can’t.”

Bromsgrove are still in the Smedley Crooke Charity Cup and Worcestershire Urn so are is a good position to give the club their first taste of glory.

Sporting’s opponents boast Cameroon’s Patrick Suffo, who used to play for Sheffield United but a bad run of form has seen them slip into mid-table in the Midland Combination Premier.

The club suffered a rare postponement after Saturday’s torrential rain forced off their clash at Pershore Town.

Mander said: “The pitch at the Victoria Ground is in great shape so we’ve been lucky not to lose any games on it.

“Pershore’s ground is right by the river so when it rains it can make a difference.”

Mander bolstered his strike options by bringing in Paul Heath, brother of recent signing Chris.

The siblings have played Sunday League Football but will have a job to dislodge in-form striker Mark Mark Bellingham, who has bagged 16 goals in 14 starts.

Meanwhile, Sporting are set to play a RAF under-23s development side at home next Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).

The RAF team will use the game as a warm-up to their round robin tournament against Navy and Army sides. Admission will be £2 for adults and £1 for youngsters under 16.

All of the RAF players are servicemen and a number have been on active service. The squad would be stronger were it not for a number of them being currently engaged in Afghanistan.
