SENIOR senseis from Worcestershire-based English Karate Association met the legendary master Moirio Higaonna, the highest ranked master of the Goju-ryu discipline.

Bromsgrove's Stuart Hughes and Kidderminster's Jason Lester attended Liverpool University to attend an historic 40 year anniversary course in honour the Higaonna, who is a tenth dan.

The 73-year-old is an icon of the martial art and this was perhaps the final time the pair could meet him.

Lester and sensei Joe Hughes attended the Japanese Karate Association course in Sussex training with World Champion Sensei Shimitsu, and Head Master Ueki ninth dan.
