Bromsgrove slip to Kingswinford defeat
12:18pm Monday 14th October 2013 in Sport
BROMSGROVE'S superb start to the season came to an abrupt end after a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Kingswinford.
After the fantastic result against Redditch last week, Grove got off to the worst possible start as they went 2-0 down within ten minutes courtesy of two penalty corners.
In truth it was a lacklustre start as Kingswinford dominated. Howeverm Bromsgrove gradually worked their way in to the game and following a well worked penalty corner routine Anton Sieg pulled one back.
Tom Jennings then had another glorious chance to equalise before half time as he robbed the last defender and went one on one with the keeper - he elected to shoot which with hindsight he regretted as he blasted horribly wide with the goal at his mercy.
The second half was a much closer affair with Wasserfuhr a constant threat to Kingswinford. With 15 minutes to go a controversial penalty corner award was converted to put Kingswinford 3-1 up. Bromsgrove again hit back with skipper Laurence Shah setting up Jennings only for the Bromsgrove forward to shoot even further wide than his first half effort.
Bromsgrove set up a grand stand finish as Anton Sieg scored to give hope. Jake Bubbles was lucky to remain on the pitch after a poor stick tackle which resulted in a warning as the game petered out.
Shah said afterwards "that was possibly we the worst performance considering the high of last week. Next week we have to come back stronger as a team. We have Tom Green available which should help our midfield.".
