Scott warns of Stafford threat
BROMSGROVE Sporting joint boss Graham Scott has warned his players Stafford Town will provide a tougher test when the two sides clash in the FA Vase second qualifying round clash at the Victoria Ground on Saturday (3pm ko).
The Rouslers have already beaten Town once at home in the Midland Combination Premier, when Jacob Snape and Matt Poyner scored in a 3-1 rout.
But since that defeat in Worcestershire, Stafford have won all four of their matches.
Sporting though are also looking in good shape as they stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches.
Scott said: “Stafford will be a much tougher prospect this time.
“They were missing a few players in the last game but since then they’ve gone on a great run.
“But we’re determined to have a run in the Vase and I believe a good result will really kick-start our season.”
Sporting have a few defensive worries ahead of Saturday’s clash as Chris Gleadow and Luke Darby limped off injured in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Pilkington XXX in the league.
The pair were set to miss last night’s Challenge Cup clash at home to Aston and will under go fitness tests tomorrow night ahead of Saturday’s Vase test.
New signing Joe O’Toole, who had been playing for Sunday league side Austin Ex-Apprentices, also made his debut.
“I thought we looked in complete control in the second half against Pilkington,” added Scott.
“We had to make changes in the second half because of Chris and Luke’s injuries but Daniel Morris Chris Duggan slotted in well.”
There was more good news for the club as they managed to repair the failed floodlights on the Birmingham Road side of the Victoria Ground.
Sporting hope to recoup some of the money spent on the repairs with events at The Rouslers Bar over the next few months, with Lottery and Super Six competitions.
