Sutton targets one more Victory

BARNT Green skipper Andrew Sutton believes Barnt Green are one win away from safety in the Birmingham and District League Premier Division.
The Cherry Hill Road side recorded an excellent win over second place Brockhampton on Saturday but slipped to a five-wicket defeat at the hands of Knowle and Dorridge on Bank Holiday Monday.
While they are seventh in the table, Green only have a 21-point advantage over second-from-bottom Wolverhampton with three matches left.
Sutton said: “I think it says a lot about how strong this league is that five or six teams could still go down.
“I think we need at least one win to make sure we stay up and we’re in good form at the moment.”
Green made a fine start to the long weekend as they stunned Brockhampton with a 121-run victory.
Tom Burton top scored with 99, while teenager Matt Lamb also reached the 40s as Green made 271-8.
Sutton then took four wickets while Richard Wilkinson and bowled tightly as the home side made it two wins in a row.
But they were beaten by Knowle and Dorridge on Monday.
Sutton won the toss and opted to bat but Green collapsed to 68-5, before the captain (58), Kieran Rees (32) and Alastair Pollock (27) scored runs late on and guided them to 205-9.
The visitors made a good start with the ball as the hosts slipped to 60-5 but a sixth wicket partnership of 150 by Sam Reddish (97 not out) and David Myers (41no) guided Knowle to victory.
Sutton said: “It was a strange wicket and neither myself or Knowle captain David Smith were sure if it was better to bat or bowl first on it.
“They bowled well but we lost a few wickets but we did well to reach 205 after losing so many wickets cheaply early on.”
Green will welcome back Richard Wilkinson for Saturday’s trip to third-placed Walsall after missing Monday’s defeat.
Sam Hain is also nearing a return from injury.
