TENNIS BROMSGROVE enjoyed a slice of derby success as they savoured three wins over Droitwich.
The mixed A team of Steve Jones and Lucy Simper with Andy Brettle and Kelly Kenward won 4-0 without dropping a set.
The Ladies D side were also in good form as they saw off Droitwich D 3-1, while the Ladies F team had a 4-0 victory against Droitwich E.
Elsewhere, the men’s F team edged out Cutnall Green C in a winning draw.
The men’s B team had local derby against the very strong David Lloyd Bromsgrove A team.
Opening pair Ash Rutter and Phil Boardman had two close matches, losing 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 to Alan Benbow and Stuart Boyd and 7-5, 6-4 to Richard Garbett and Henry Myatt.
The second pair of Alistair Liddle and reserve Jeth Tomlinson went down 6-2, 6-1 to Benbow and Boyd and 6-2, 6-2 to Garbett and Myatt.
Meanwhile, Bromsgrove D team needed a victory against Belbroughton to ensure survival in this division in their final match of the Winter Season but ended up drawing 2-2.
The team comprising stand-in captain Tim Wright, Roger Lewis, Mark Blake and Alan Colley were determined to follow up on their drawn match the previous week and take all the points.
The first pair of Wright and Lewis won their opening rubber against John Kibon and Phil Broom despite going a set down.
It was a tight match and the home team were leading in the third set until the determination and resilience of the Bromsgrove duo eventually secured a final set victory of 6-4.
Against Belbroughton’s second pair of John Knott and Richard Broomfield, Wright and Lewis again failed to clinch a straight sets victory, but secured victory when Lewis served for the match winning 7-5 in the final set.
Mark Blake and Alan Colley pushed their opposite numbers all the way and showed great fighting spirit for the team cause.
Unfortunately they were unable to hold out for a victory, going down two sets to one in both matches.
