Ball shines at Cofton

THE under-17s girls from Bromsgrove and Redditch AC perfomed well representing the county at the McCain World Cross Country Trials, which was staged at Cofton Park.

The youngsters were part of the best performing team from Worcestershire, coming 11th out of 33.

The tournament also incorporated the UK Inter Counties and Cross Challenge Final.

Worcestershire’s senior women were out in force in the eight-kilometre race, with BARC’s Katy Anderson finishing 200th in 32 minutes and 58 seconds, followed in 219th by Helen Russell (33.26) and Mel Hepke (257th, 35.07). The team were 32nd out of 33.

Rich Lomas was 170th in the senior men event, over 12km, in 39.06, while Adam Lloyd (215th, 40.12) and Matt Giles (280th, 44.36) were not too far behind as the county team came 30th out of 36.

In the 6km long under-17s race, James Downing finished 274th in 23.49.

Oriana Ball came 157th in 23.28 as she pipped team-mate Katie Plumber (23.35) into 162nd as part of the senior women’s team.
