Oakes: Eight will be gr-eight
10:00am Thursday 14th March 2013 in Sport
PAUL Oakes believes Fairfield Villa must win eight of their last 13 matches to have a chance of topping the Midlabd Combination Division One at the end of the season.
Villa are fourth after Saturday’s draw with title-challengers Cadbury Athletic.
But with leader Alvis four points ahead with three games in hand, Villa know there can be no let-up after carving out a 14-game unbeaten run.
Fairfield go to 14th-placed Shirley Town on Saturday (3pm ko) looking to start their run-in with a win.
“We need to win eight of our final 13 matches to give ourselves a chance,” said joint-manager Oakes. “It’s going to be tight at the top but we’re on a good run and put ourselves in a great position.”
Villa salvaged a point in Bournville after falling 1-0 down in the first half against Cadbury. But Chris Pratt levelled the scores with a spectacular 30-yard effort.
Villa face an incredibly tough task when they take on West Midlands Premier Division leaders Lye Town away in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Trophy on Thursday, March 21 (7.30pm ko).
