Ready for action: Matt Gill will represent Wales under-16s on Sunday.
A TEENAGER from Droitwich Spa High School has been selected to play for the Wales Under-16 hockey team.
Matthew Gill, 14, goalkeeper impressed selectors during an elite training camp held in Cardiff last month.
He will now play for the country of his birth against a host of teams on Sunday, including the Great Britain Lions.
“I am proud to be playing for Wales. I am looking forward to the tournament although I know it is going to be very hard,” said Gill.
“The Lions in particular are a strong team so I am going to have to play at my very best to keep a clean sheet.”
Gill is a regular for Worcester and has been playing hockey since he was nine-years-old.
Jamie Broughton, PE teacher, said: “I am very pleased that one of our students is progressing so well in the world of hockey.
“As a player myself, I am fully aware of the high level of dedication, fitness and ability that are required to establish oneself at a high level in such a technically demanding sport.”
