Winning draw for town men
12:00pm Friday 1st March 2013 in Sport
BROMSGROVE Tennis Club’s men’s team battled hard to get a winning draw against Worcester.
After the first two rubbers the match was poised at 1-1 with Bromsgrove first pair Steve Halfpenny and Matt Kirkham losing 6-2 7-6 against Jonathan Bradshaw and Ben Tolhurst and second pair Stephen Jones and Andy Pugh winning 6-3 7-6 against Dom Tunnell and Chris Langford.
The second rubbers were reversed with Halfpenny and Kirkham winning 6-1 6-0, meaning the Bromsgrove second pair needed three games to get a win.
Jones and Pugh ended up losing 6-1 6-2 but did enough to get the winning draw by the single game.
Meanwhile, the ladies G team continued their fine run of form with a 4-0 victory against local rivals David Lloyd Bromsgrove D.
Yvonne Priestman and Lisa Rushton won, as did second pairing Lorraine Russell and Anne Simper.
The men’s D team didn’t fare so well against league leaders Stourport B.
Bromsgrove went down 3-1 after John Casey and Tim Wright were edged out. But they bounced back to defeat Stourport’s second pair. Hands and Walters fought well but lost both their games
