Bromsgrove 27, Sheffield Tigers 15

BROMSGROVE continued their fine form of the previous week with a comfortable win over Sheffield Tigers but their day was blighted when Chris McGregor saw his season ended after he sustained a broken ankle.

McGregor sustained the horrific injury early in the second-half.

But Bromsgrove did not let the setback faze them as they scored four tries to earn a National Two North bonus point.

Town were well on top for three quarters of the game and it wasn’t until the last 20 minutes when injuries took their toll that the Tigers really threatened.

It didn’t take long for the home side to get into their stride and great interplay between Olly Bache and Jon Critchlow saw the former touch down and the latter converting.

Phil Horton maintained his great form of the previous week and was a consistent threat to the visitors, well-supported by the Steve Smith and Dave Hughes.

The visitors did manage to contain Town for the next 30 minutes, despite the hosts dominating territory and possession, and they did cut the lead on 20 minutes through a Thomas Outram penalty.

But the Boars finished the half strongly when Steve Blackburn giving Hughes the opportunity to peel off the side of the ruck to power over near the corner.

Man-of-the-match Bache was again at hand to add another try this time in the opposite corner to give Bromsgrove a well deserved 17-3 half-time lead.

The second half was disrupted early on with McGregor’s injury but Town were not knocked out of their stride as Chris Morgan proved to be an able deputy.

James Curgenven kicked a penalty and then converted a try afterwards Dave Brazier got a well earned touch down.

With an unassailable 27-3 lead, Bromsgrove were disrupted by injuries to Paul Norris, Toby Wilson and Curgenven, which allowed Tigers to finish the stronger with tries from their star player James Broadley and local boy Samir Tahraoui.

Bromsgrove have no first team game this weekend and resume the league on Saturday, March 2 at high-flying Hull Ionians.
