HOCKEY: Bromsgrove closed the gap on leaders Ludlow in the West Midlands Division Two as they beat fifth-placed West Brom 5-1.
Both sides came out showing intention with chances at both ends but it was on 20 minutes when Tom Jennings broke the deadlock for Bromsgrove.
Smart play by George Adams set Jennings free to slot past the West Brom keeper.
Five minutes later, the hosts doubled their lead after Bruce Turner released skipper Rammy Arafa down the right, who drove hard at the West Brom back line before cutting in field and slotting home from a tight angle.
Bromsgrove went into half-time with the two-goal lead thanks to some solid defending from Nigel Johns and Stuart White, while Max McLoughlin marked West Brom’s top-scorer Paul Crompton out of the game, The home side started the second-half at a furious pace and Karl Troth missed a chance to grab a third.
But Bruce Turner delivered a teasing low cross, which Jennings converted at the back post.
Tom Green added a fourth for rampant Bromsgrove after Bevan Edwards’ shot was saved.
Edwards scored a fifth with a drilled effort into the bottom right corner.
White pulled a goal back for the Black Country side but it was too little too late as the Boars cruised to a fine win.
Bromsgrove travel away to Yardley on Saturday.
