FAIRFIELD Villa joint boss Paul Oakes is keeping his feet firmly on the ground after their seventh straight league win lifted them to joint top of the Midland Combination Division One.
Stuart Hall hit the target as Villa edged out Glades FC 1-0 in a hard fought home game.
That was enough to see them go level with leaders Hampton, although their goal difference is inferior.
Fairfield have won their last 10 games in all competitions, which is the best run of results under the stewardship of Oakes and Lee Shaw.
Oakes said: “Lee and I have been at the club for seven or eight years and I do not recall ever putting a run of results like this together.
“But we’re keeping our feet firmly on the ground.
“We knew we had a run of winnable games coming up and fair play to the players they have done that.
“We’ve got some tough matches coming up and we’ll know in a month or so where we are.
“It’s not psychology, we’re just keeping calm and been sensible.”
The club also completed the signing of striker Brendan Hicks from Redditch United’s reserves and the versatile Nigel Adams from Feckenham.
Villa face an away trip to Glades in the league on Saturday (2pm ko) on Saturday, before entertaining Hampton a week later.
Oakes was also quick to praise keeper Neil Leach.
He said: “Neil has been brilliant for us, he’s a good keeper and a lovely bloke.”
