DROITWICH driving ace Matt Neal hailed Honda Yuasa teammate Gordon Shedden after the Scot secured the British Touring Car Championship title at Brands Hatch at the weekend.
Neal ended a testing season on a high with a victory at the weekend but it was Shedden who topped the drivers’ standings ahead of the three-time winner of the competition, who had to contend with the runner-up spot.
It also ensured a Honda clear sweep as they were named top constructor and team, while Andrew Jordan — who also races in a Civic — was named independents champion.
“Gordon has driven superbly all season, has amassed the most wins and massively deserves to be champion,” said Neal.
“As a team we all pull together at Honda and the Civic has simply been the class of the field all year.
“A clean sweep of titles is the perfect result.”
Neal and first-time winners Aron Smith and Frank Wrathall shared the victories in final three races of the the season on a wet Brands Hatch grand prix circuit.
Triple champion Neal won the opening race while Dubliner Smith was in unstoppable in race two in his Redstone Racing’s Ford Focus.
The last of the season, was also won in emphatic style by Wrathall whose victory was the first for himself.
