Banbury 13, Droitwich 33

DROITWICH produced an impressive second-half four-try salvo to bag a fine win in Banbury in Midlands Two West (South).

Spa had been trailing after a lacklustre first-half display but they responded with gusto after the break to bag four tries.

Having had a week’s rest with no fixture last weekend, Spa came into the game on Saturday looking to continue the small winning streak that had started to develop.

Despite the excellent playing conditions, and a fine pitch, they made the worst possible start.

Banbury were ahead within five minutes after some good phase play compounded by poor decision making and defence score the hosts score a converted try and a penalty.

Spa’s did manage a try before the interval as Ryan Handley showed his pace to score in the corner. Rob Poke missed the conversion.

Spa produced some of the best rugby of the season in the second-half.

Solid defence, controlled aggression and clinical decision making were all combined in a performance that saw four unanswered tries.

Craig Mortlemans, Stef Buijnsters, Stuart Brooks and Will Baillon all touched down, while Sean Walker converted them all.

The pick of the tries saw youngster Baillon show some fine footwork to leave the full back flat footed, as he raced through to score under the posts.

Droitwich entertain Dunlop in the league on Saturday (3pm ko).
