I’M not normally one to jump to the defence of our council. However, after reading some of the comments made over the last few weeks about the work being undertaken to try and improve our High Street, I thought I needed to add a considered view.

Although it does seem quite harsh to be chopping down trees, surely this is just part of the bigger picture?

I’m sure that we’re all now well aware that our High Street is essentially a conservation area and that it was listed recently as at risk. You’ll also be aware that we have been awarded money to undertake remedial improvements and also draft up a detailed plan in case we are successful with the next stage of the Townscape Heritage Initiative funding.

For Bromsgrove to be successful with this next bid we need to offer our thoughts on the draft plan and in my opinion we need to be positive about the actions being taken. I’m suremanypeople would agree that we cannot live in the past and if we are to maintain our High Street and its lovely old buildings, we must have a plan that looks to the future.
