Brine baths query

I am not one usually to write to papers, however I feel there is a conspiracy between the local press, business and politicians not to make a fuss about the closure of the brine baths, which have been shut for nearly six months with hardly a whimper of coverage.

The baths are the reason the town is so called and is part of its heritage and point of difference from all the other faceless towns that dot the country.

Droitwich Spa is yet again intent on destroying everything that makes it the place my wife and I wanted to live in nearly ten years ago. Contrast the lack of coverage of the closure of the baths with the Save our Lido campaign and the canals restoration. In fact the coverage is as lacking as that over the farce that was the canal barge project in Vines Park. Political coincidence? I think not.

Despite the story being the most newsworthy thing to be currently happening in the town, I do not see the front page being dedicated to this issue or politicians being vocal, particularly now that the staff who work there have been made redundant and the resultant impact this has had both on employees and users of this fantastic facility.

I can only conclude that the paper has chosen to deliberately ignore this and is happy to see another part of our unique town disappear.

I shall be writing to Peter Luff and my local councillor to ask the same questions, as clearly the story is being deliberately buried. So come on people of Droitwich Spa, fight for it before its too late again.

Charles Watts, Dodderhill Road, Droitwich Spa
