I AM very pleased to see that three of the UK’s biggest Trade Unions are coming to Bromsgrove next week to discuss the impact of Sajid Javid’s Trade Union Reform Bill.

This is one of the most pernicious and unnecessary pieces of legislation that has ever been introduced by any government. This Tory government has made it quite clear that they basically hate Trade Unions, and I am convinced that if they had their way, they would simply ban Trade Unions.

They hate the fact that Trade Unions provide significant funding to the Labour Party and one of the main motivations for this legislation is to undermine the effectiveness of the Labour Party. It seems that funding provided by organisations that represent millions of workers is bad, but the millions given to the Tories by Hedge Funds and rich non-dom donors is fine.

This government is already making it harder for workers to get access to Employment Tribunals, with the introduction of charges and reductions in legal aid.

There has been a massive increase in people working on zero-hours contracts and people who are selfemployed.

These people don’t have the same protection as workers who are members of Trade Unions.

In Tory Britain, there would be no Trade Unions and no access to Employment Tribunals. The workers rights obtained through the European Social Charter would be negotiated away prior to the EU referendum, and more workers would be forced to work on zero-hours contracts, with little if any employments protections. This will be bad for the workers but great for the rich donors whose unaccountable organisations fund the Tory Party.

The Tories only have a parliamentary majority of 12. They have no mandate to destroy our valuable Trade Unions and to undermine workers rights. This nasty Trade Union Reform Bill must be robustly resisted.
